Robert S. Carlisleabout this book: As the father of three teenage sons, I wanted to capture some of my "life's lessons learned" with a story that would also give them a glimpse of what my life was like while serving in the Navy. My naval career started at the Naval Academy, so this is where I chose to start my novel as well. Two best friends choose separate paths - my main character Tom wants to be a surface warfare officer on a ship and so chooses to go to Pearl Harbor. His friend Paul's lifelong dream to be a jet pilot comes true as well and thus he heads off to Pensacola Florida for flight training.
This is also a story about faith. Being a Christian, I wanted to leave my sons a legacy of why I believe the way I do. Tom is eventually led to Christ through the testimony of his friend Paul, but only after going through some traumatic experiences.
And it is a love story about how two people can still love each other even though they are thousands of miles away and oceans apart. Paul and Tom both discover love soon after graduation and they both form bonds that are not easily broken.
Taking you around the world with settings from Hawaii, Singapore, the Persian Gulf, and Australia, this story is both heartbreaking and heartwarming and gives us all hope despite the storms of life.
