Lawrence Gold, M.D.about this book: Rage is not in the Brier Hospital Series, but it does involve forensic psychiatry.
Normal people with no history of psychiatric problems suddenly become violent. That they come from the same geographic area is puzzling.
Michael Rose and his associate, Karen are consulted by their defense attorney to explain what happened and testify in court.
Michael, no hired gun, for the prosecution or the defense, sets out to find out what really happened and why.
His conclusion is devastating.
The novel gives the reader a chance to understand the complex interface between the law and psychiatry, an unwholesome relationship at times.
From a four star review: This psychological thriller comes from the author of the Brier Hospital [mystery] Series in which he reveals what really goes on behind the scenes in the medical community and what challenges confront it and us. This novel stands alone as another medical mystery, but it is structured around a number of similar acts of violence in the community, and how forensic psychiatrists are able to show lawyers and cops that some crimes are not what they appear to be.
Mental health experts have put a lot of hurdles up for them to jump. The symptoms and circumstances of the attacks suggest Avoidance Personality Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Narcissim, and so forth. The individuals who express rage are very different from one another. Finally it occurs to the investigators that these violent persons may have been poisoned to change their personalities. By whom? What's their connection?
