There is however, two immediately large problems: firstly, the woman who has turned up looks nothing like the photograph and description of Kate Gilby and she denies any knowledge of her daughters disappearance,
Failing in her invrstihgation, Angela consults with Resa, a consultant criminal psychologist. Working on the few clues they have, Angela gets a breakthrough, leading to a different line of enquiry. She discovers that Kate Gilby is only the tip of the iceberg in a much more complicated scenario.
The investigation builds up speed as many different strands are discovered. Murders occur and thr discovery of a 'gang' of criminals lead the investigation to America. Unbeknownst to Angela the FBI have been watching an organisation which appears to be at the root of Kate Gilby's original disappearance.
The investigation assumes international importance when FBI agents travel to the UK to work with Angela's team.
Momentum grows as 'Kate' is re-abducted and the identity of some of the criminal gang members are uncovered.
