Maggie Jamesabout this book: I wrote Guilty Innocence after wondering what it would be like to discover a loved one was concealing a terrible secret. From that premise, I created the character of Natalie Richards. Lacking in confidence, hiding a troubled upbringing, Natalie discovers the man she loves has been convicted of child murder. Even worse, the crime was committed when Mark was eleven years old.
Shocked, repulsed, Natalie spurns Mark, yet doubts prevail in her mind. He denies being involved, blaming the twisted and violent Adam Campbell. Saddened by Natalie's rejection, haunted by the past, Mark struggles to cope, retreating into obsessive behaviour. Then his path crosses that of Rachel Morgan, the murdered child's sister, a meeting that has disastrous consequences for both of them. Events spiral out of control, worsening when Mark meets up with Adam, a man who's more chilling and domineering than ever. Will Mark ever defeat his demons?
Guilty Innocence is a gritty novel examining child murder and dysfunctional families, portraying one man's struggle to break free from his past.
