Tammy Rugglesabout this book: "Love" is a collection of my poetry about love in all of its forms. This means love of nature, love of family, love of friends, love of animals, love of ideas, love of life. Some say I write in a sometimes Romantic, sometimes Victorian kind of style, and that sounds kind of nice to me, so I won't reject it.
In my poetry, I try to convey the moods and feelings that my surroundings or experiences create in me. Sometimes I'll use a play on words, or an abstract idea, sort of like a painting.
I don't think very long and hard about a poem when I'm writing it, or writing anything for that matter. I like the fresh, natural feeling of letting it flow out the way I want to, then leaving it alone after writing it the first time and not tinkering with it too much.
I will say that I respect free verse, but prefer poems that rhyme. I do like the lyrical sound that it makes, almost like music itself.
It was about the age of 12 when I started writing poems, but didn't keep any of them.
Some of the poems in "Love" I wrote in college in 1988. The rest in 1992. There are 70 all together. I would like to publicly thank my literature teacher Kathy Easton Dickison, for opening my mind to the beauty and meaning of what poetry could be.
It's another art form for me, and I hope you enjoy my poems.
