Appleton Schneiderabout this book: A collection of poetry.
An epic poem begins the book -- a story of life and love lost, but paradise regained (if only in the aching memory on the isle).
Poems about the intellect, the human, the sacrosanct, the seasons, and more.
POETRY FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE POETRY. This isn't the usual off-the-wall "what the hell's it mean" stuff.
Some is sensuous. Some horrific. Some beautiful. Some ridiculous.
All are my mind's meanders of impression, and words composed as a music of expression.
I began writing poetry when I was 17, had met a girl at my summer resort job, and for a brief time was in perhaps pathological love with being in love. For she lived 200 miles away, was older than I, and although we corresponded, it was hardly an actual relationship (and not a carnal relationship).
But I travelled down to New Jersey a couple times to visit her. And the trips through the night became an undiminishing and overwhelming imprint and influence on me. The epic poem, "To Remember" fictionalizes that experience of "first love" lost.
Catharsis? Sublimation? As I write in the introduction, poetry (and other creativity) is TRANS-leveling otherwise traumatic or tragic or heartbreaking experience into . . art!!! Not SUBlimation.
