Grant M. Handgisabout this book: "In The Age of Youth" is a book of poetry consisting of two collections of poems, written between 1973-75 and 1978-1981 respectively, when the author was a young man and the world was a different place. The poems touch on social issues and prevailing thinking of that time, as poets tend to do.
The first collection "Journey From The Child" focuses on a time with small children, life in the woods and coming to better understand life as it is handed us. The poems are open verse, sometimes in Pentameter form. I believe as a poet, that one's poetry must connect with the reader to be enjoyed, and to allow that to happen the words upon the line must be in that form which is understandable. I hope I have accomplished that by my word choices and phrasing.
The second collection "On Seeking The Way" deals with social issues of the time, with a section with a series "God's Not In" whereupon the poet takes license with the differences between thinking about God and social inequities. I use open verse for the most part, with Pentameter included.
