Michelle Prout

Author Michelle Proutabout this book: Wildernest, Four Seasons in Nature is filled with the essence of flowers, fresh mountain air and calm turquoise seas. I write about love and adventure; heartache and hope...all amidst the backdrop of the beauty, peace and calm of nature. The cover art, and the four full color interior pictures are original art, by Jesslyn Fernandez. The nest, and the title Wildernest, represents the comfort, peace, love and joy of being at home in nature. The book is divided by the four seasons. Each season begins with a different colored tree, representing the season. My favorite is the icy winter tree; which is bare, but for a little red ribbon, from which a pine cone full of bird food is hung..this tree is referenced in the poem Winter Garden (p. 134, Wildernest).

I grew up in the hills of Topanga Canyon, California, where I enjoyed adventures in nature, to my heart's desire. I carried that love of nature with me throughout my life... Many of my poems (especially in the Autumn and Winter sections) are based on my adventures, thoughts, emotions and observations during my many years living in beautiful Colorado.

I live, once again, in the hills above Los Angeles, amidst abundant wildlife. I often hear the owls and coyotes and night, and they are referenced in several poems. In one poem, I reference both the owls and coyotes as possible predators and close the poem with the line, "keep the cat inside tonight".

People have told me that reading the book helps them feel more in touch with nature; and gives them motivation to seek out adventures...whether in the mountains, or simply in one's garden. I'd love for my readers to see that the world around us, though filled with "more bad news and violence", is still a beautiful place, and when you find joy in nature everywhere and everyday, you find peace, happiness and hope.
