Book: The Haunting of the Opera by Siara Brandtcategories: Book, Romance, Music, Ghost, Phantom of the Opera
Siara Brandtabout this book: There is a reason why a story endures. The story of Erik and Christine has captivated people for generations. That the writer of the original Phantom of the Opera tells us that his book was based on actual events, captures our imaginations even more. As a child I knew a vague version of the well-known story of the tormented and deformed phantom and his love for an opera singer. I really had no clue what the original story was about because there were so many film versions that the storyline had become somewhat murky over the years. It was not until many years later that I happened upon a very old, tattered and forgotten copy of the book which had been translated from the original French version. When someone gave me a copy of the most recent movie, I confess I became a little obsessed with the story and decided that fate had stepped in. There was no way I could not do my own version.
The compelling story of forbidden desire and dark seduction takes the reader on a journey into the darker recesses of the soul and straight down into the depths of raw human emotion. There are so many complex layers to the characters that we can't help but empathize with them and be drawn into their world. It is a compelling story of tragedy and triumph, of agony and bliss. It is that kind of story where the secret depths of the soul are torn out and laid bare before us. That is what makes this timeless tale of obsession, vengeance, jealousy and passion so powerful and so poignant. The Haunting of the Opera takes the reader from the tumultuous beginning and then beyond the wrenching ending of the original story.
