about this book: ANGEL IN DISGUISE is a true love story, but not in the usual sense of male/female bonding. It is the story of a feline/human relationship that teaches one to never judge a book by its cover. Shortly after Violeta lost her husband, a cat comes into her life. Violeta doesn't like cats and has always thought of herself as a "dog person." But Cat, that's what she calls him, has a different idea. He gets to choose and he chooses Violeta as his new companion. Violeta at first resists but it doesn't take long for her to open her heart to this tiny creature of the wild and their adventures together are life-changing, amusing and heartwarming.
The book was inspired while I was helping a friend write her story about a cat she just adopted. Remembering back to the time I had this darling fur ball in my life, I sat at my computer and began to write our story intending it initially to be a children's book. Instead, my editor felt it would appeal not only to children, but to adult pet lovers and people who have lost a loved one.
When it came to giving it a title that was easy. Cat's favorite place was a rocker on the tiny porch of my country house in Canada. One day, the branches of the large oak trees along the fence were stirred by a breeze. The branches parted allowing a sunbeam to shine down on this beautiful orange tabby with aquamarine eyes. At that moment I knew he was heaven-sent and so the name, ANGEL IN DISGUISE.
Instead of illustrations, I chose to use some of the many photos I had taken of Cat,(later named Butzi) throughout our journey together. My wonderful friend, Flavia Harvey, a graphic designer, designed the cover and the inside, and selected the photos that suited the story, filling the book with amusing and adorable pictures. Several improvisations were added as well as some purchased photos which were needed to complement and complete the book.

Amazing story
Violeta Barrett, the author of this book speaks both from the heart and personal experience. The photographs and content are blended beautifully which takes the reader on a wonderful journey. Whit and humor, love and sadness are all combined to keep your interest and to entertain. Angel in Disguise is an absolutely delighted story offered by a very talented writer. Heart-Warming Story
This is one of those books that make its way directly to your heart. I didn't want to put it down till the last page -- and then I wanted more! It's sweet, it's funny, it's a real life love and friendship, the type we can only have with a pet. The photos/illustrations also tell the story so well. Lucky Violeta for having Butzi in her life, and for being so smart to always photograph her furry sweetheart. I think this is a very good gift for a child or for a pet lover of all ages.

If you're looking for the perfect gift, don't look any further. ANGEL IN DISGUISE will win the hearts of children of all ages, adult pet lovers and someone who has lost a loved one. It is a true story of a genuine relationship between a feline and a human. How many pet lovers have said, "I'm a dog person. I don't like cats." So did this author, a widow who had just lost her husband, until Cat (that was his name initially) suddenly appeared in her life and turned it around. The book is filled with amusing stories and loaded with delightful photos that are laugh out loud funny, emotional and heart warming. There are many lessons to be learned in ANGEL IN DISGUISE, but especially that love comes in many forms and gifts come wrapped in different packaging.
