Charlie Plunkettabout this book: 100 Little Words on Parenthood is a compilation book with 100 contributors all sharing their experiences of parenthood in exactly 100 words. Some of these are anecdotal, some poetic and there are many words of wit, wisdom and humor contained.
I was inspired to write this book as a way to celebrate what parenthood means to me. My little boy has blessed my life completely and this book is a tribute to our love for each other. As he is just four years old I knew I would require some help covering the multitude of different aspects that being a parent involved and after putting out a tweet for assistance I was delighted to receive so much support from the twitter community. My contributors are all parents, some of them are well-known mummy and daddy bloggers, some grandparents and there are several experts in childcare and behavior. Each of them shared an aspect of parenthood that most struck a chord with them. Topics covered include - birth, babies, twins, nappies/diapers, sleep, breastfeeding, motherhood, fatherhood, teething, weaning, picky eaters, speech, parenthood, toddlers, first steps, toilet training, nursery, young children, behavior, parenting, family, birthdays, Christmas, the Tooth Fairy, learning, school, university, teenagers and grandparents.
For my book cover I wanted something that was clean and contemporary looking that also conveyed parenthood. I chose a silhouette of parents and children of varying ages and for my colors I chose duck-egg blue for my background (blue conveys that you have something to say and duck-egg symbolizes birth).I chose a dark brown for the silhouette as that is an earthy, honest color, perfect for the heartfelt honesty of the words within.
It took me around seven months to compile the book, as well as adding my own series of 100 words I also sourced some fabulous quotes from famous and anonymous people that I felt enhanced each of the 100 words. The contributors are from all walks of life and from all over the world. I have learned from this process that I love working and collaborating with other writers and that I am far more organised than I previously gave myself credit for. As I read through the finished book I am incredibly proud and would say that if you are a parent there will be many parts of this book that will have you nodding your head as you recall how you felt during that particular milestone on your child's life. Some of the entries will have you laughing aloud and others wiping a tear from your eye.
'100 Little Words is an insightful collection of accounts of parenthood from the front line. Covering every aspect from birth to becoming a grandparent Charlie has managed to pull together a rich variety of writers to contribute to this masterful collection of parental reflections. It's genuinely funny, often heart-breaking and always honest. Any parent would be wise to purchase this to gain insight into the often bewildering world of parenthood.'
