Book: Dark Genesis (The Darkling Trilogy, Book 1) by A D Koboahcategories: Book, Historical, Fantasy, Vampire, African American, Slavery, Paranormal Romance
A D Koboahabout this book: Dark Genesis is an unconventional Paranormal Romance which begins in 1807, one sultry summer evening in Mississippi. Its protagonist is Luna, a beautiful slave girl who has always seen her beauty as a curse. When she comes across the burnt ruins of a haunted chapel, she crosses the path of a tormented vampire. And when this vampire spirits her away against her will, she is sure she will be dead by sunrise.
Although the novel is essentially a romance, it is a dark novel about the horrors of slavery which explores the concept of dehumanisation and its effects – whether the dehumanisation is as a result of slavery (as in the case of the protagonist Luna) or as the result of being turned into a supernatural being who is forced to live in the shadows feeding on others for survival.
Although the novel is set against the backdrop of the savage world of slavery, it is a beautiful novel that shows how indomitable the human spirit is and that love can conquer all.
