Paty Jagerabout this book: This book is the first book of the Spirit Trilogy and the books of my heart. I grew up in the Wallowa Valley where the first two books take place. The Lake Nimiipuu, the band of Nez Perce who summered and wintered in the Wallowa area have always been foremost in my mind. When the idea came to me to write a historical paranormal it seemed fitting to come up with sibling Nez Perce spirits who are shapeshifters. These siblings were taken from their band by the Creator after their father listened the the greedy coyote and was the catalyst for all the warriors of that band being killed. To safe the three from the fury of the band, he whisked the away and made them spirits to watch over the Lake Nimiipuu the band of their mother.
I spent many hours reading books about the Nez Perce, particularly the Wallowa Nez Perce and made friends with several who were willing to help answer questions and help me keep the stories as true to the Nes Perce beliefs as I could being an outsider.
These books are historically accurate but I've added the fictional spirits and made them each fall in love with a mortal.
