A.J. Donnellyabout this book: Mind Splinters: The Awakening started almost a decade ago in Los Angeles but it started out as something very different than what it is today. It took me several years to find my voice and truly settle on a direction for the story and the characters. At first I wrote from the hip but realized the story was empty, hollow, missing a key ingredient. I finally realized that I needed to know how the entire young adult series was going to end, so I wrote the final chapter of the final book. Once I knew the how the series was going to end I found it much easier to fill in the blanks along the way.
However, The Awakening still took close to 5 years to finish. I have a full time job and most days I would be lucky to find 60 minutes to write. And since this is my first foray into the world of literature I can honestly say my first drafts were pretty weak. When I finally captured the story of Max Daely and his introduction into the world of Extra Sensory Perception I decided it would be wise not to publish the first book. I wrote Book 2 (The Fallen) and 3 (name TBD) in the following years because I wanted to have several books under my belt when I finally released The Awakening. I knew it was going to take years to finish the subsequent books and I didn't want to subject the fans to such a long wait. So in August 2013 I released Book 1 and 2 on the same day with an accompanying website, trailer and personal blog.
If you are a fan of comic books, paranormal fantasy or coming of age character arcs you will definitely enjoy the Mind Splinters books.
