Lois Gerber about this book: The fourteen short stories in the e-book, Nurses and Their Patients: Acts of Courage and Conviction, are based on real people I've served as a community health nurse but are fictionalized accounts of their lives. Writing this book, which took me six years, brought back many fond memories. Most of the anecdotes involve a patient or family caregiver as the main character. A few focus on the nurse.
All of the stories show people's strength in overcoming their particular life challenges, usually a combination of illness, relationship issues, or lack of financial or other tangible resources. One woman close to my heart emigrated from Poland to the United States after WWII. Traumatic memories of her work with the Polish Resistance lay buried inside her. Another special person is a pediatric nurse, Greg, who must come to terms with life after losing his young son in a boating accident. As in real life, some of the stories have happy endings while others end in tragedy.
