Malini Chaudhriabout this book: This book is an economical but ambitious attempt at technical description and illustration of essential new methodologies to support rehabilitation. The less known details about neuroscience and neuro-physiology in this massage system is given clarity.
Orthopaedic massage, sports massage, sensory techniques, rehabilitation for stroke and supporting knowledge come together in differential description for many complaints, yet sustain single principles of massage in the common neuro physiological understanding.
Massage and physical therapy have range and scope for further practise and investigation.
This book supports the development of detail and data for technical massage education and industry standards. It serves as an optimal reference point to assess the level of many parallel or related complementary sciences. The difficulties of physical therapists to arrive at clear arrangements in care, is not supported in India. This book is also a guide to further reference, reading and practise.
I was surprised to notice that UK did not have listings to neuromuscular therapy, or proprioceptrive neuromuscular facilitation techniques in the national Occupational Standards. This indicated that Sports massage continues in the UK devoid of much neuromuscular techniques. I was also surprised to find very little rehabilitation science available for stroke conditions. I have hinted at important channels of scientific writing in this subject.
It has been unnecessary to develop the complete techniques, as in the British Indian Ocean location, where practises may be unethical, the availability of the book can create fast misuse or malpractise. The exact arrangements to Patterns in PNF are not illustrated. Only random techniques are illustrated to prepare readers for comprehensive investigation and systematic study
The book is powerful and may be read many times. The techniques can also be self supporting where very active sports is in or where competitive sports creates overload and extra stress.
