Jinx Schwartzabout this book: In spite of herself, Hetta, a feisty Texan with a yacht and a penchant for trouble, has made the voyage from San Francisco Bay to Cabo San Lucas, and turned north into Mexico's hauntingly beautiful and remote Sea of Cortez. She and her whatever-he-is, Jenks Jenkins, have reunited for a leisurely vacation in the Sea before he has to return to Kuwait to finish a project there. But before they can get back to port in Cabo, where Hetta plans to await his return, she is offered a job in Guayamas, Sonora, just a couple of hundred miles south of Tucson.
Settling in at a marina and taking on a new project should keep Hetta out of trouble, right? Well, yeah, except when Trouble arrives in the form of a pesky parrot, a handsome (in a criminal sort of way) bad guy, and a missing grandmother. And then there is Hetta's natural nosiness, sure to land everyone in a heap of hurt.
When we cruised to Mexico over twenty years ago, we planned to stay three months, but then we turned the corner into the Sea of Cortez and fell madly in love. And here we are, even though our original boat sank in Hurricane Marty in 2003. We were devastated, for High Jinx was our home, but we regrouped and bought a smaller boat, also named High Jinx.
Looking at a map of Mexico, the Sea of Cortez might be mistaken for a benign body of water, but it is far from it. John Steinbeck wrote, in his Log From the Sea of Cortez: The Sea of Cortez, or the Gulf of California, is a long, narrow, highly dangerous body of water. It is subject to sudden and vicious storms of great intensity. Kinda like Hetta.
