Nancy Morseabout this book: This book is about the daughter of an Indian trader and a Lakota warrior who fight for their love and the wild country of their birth. My love of Native American history and culture led me to write this book. The title refers to the Great Plains, where the Lakota fought hard against the U.S. Army, where the great buffalo herds were dwindling and their free-roaming life began to be challenged.
At first I wanted a cover image of just tipis beneath a sunset sky, but my cover designer convinced me a bare-chested man would draw more readers, and I have to say she was right. Research came easy as I've been researching this subject for many years. The hardest part of writing this book was narrowing down a specific four-year period in which to place my story. I could have gone on and on, but I'll gladly put some of my unused material into the sequel I have stirring around in my head.
