E.N. Hackettabout this book: The idea for Scarecrow Road came to me in the form of a single question: who killed Nicky Bellington, and a single image: a young man, in a clown costume, murdered. For days, the question and the image rolled around in my head, until I could stand it no longer. I had to know...so I began writing. I'd written fiction before but never had I felt such a strong urge to learn Nicky, and the clown's, stories. Scarecrow Road is a story about secrets, and families, and the lengths we go to, to protect both. The title refers to a road in Cedar Valley, Colorado, that has a formative impact on our heroine, Deputy Jessie Van Hoven. In a larger sense, Scarecrow Road is that place that exists for each of us where we first understood that without death, there can be no life.
I loved writing this story and I sincerely hope you enjoy reading it just as much.
