Bob Sanchezabout this book: With its cobblestone streets, ancient mill buildings, rough edges and rich ethnic mix, Lowell, Massachusetts seems an ideal venue for a private eye. In Getting Lucky, Clay Webster is that man. He's an ex-cop who's had his share of tough luck in life, and now he hangs out his P.I. shingle in a tough neighborhood called the Acre.
Enter Bonita Esquivez, who hires him to locate her husband Lucky. Clay soon sees that his chosen profession is unlikely to bring him glory as his search leads him to a porn shop named A Touch of Love and brings him in conflict with an ambitious local politician. Although the story is basically serious, Clay Webster has a sense of humor that helps him survive.
Here is one reader's comment:
• "Readers of Bob Sanchez's hilarious first novel, 'When Pigs Fly', will find plenty of humor in 'Getting Lucky', but the humor here is more character-driven, deeper, more burnished. It is Clay Webster's first line of defense, and as we learn more about Clay's back story, the laughs sometime catch in the throat."
The author once lived near Lowell, and he spent many an hour exploring it.
Getting Lucky recently finished #3 in a Goodreads poll of "Best Indie to Read in 2012."
