Stephen L. Braytonabout this book: Mallory Petersen is a Fourth Degree Black Belt and private investigator. When not instructing her martial arts students she finds herself taking on cases and clients coming that are a little odd. However, when she is hired to find kidnapped eight year old Cindy McGee, Mallory uncovers participants in the dark underworld of child pornography. She follows a trail leading her around the capital city of Des Moines, to south central Iowa, and onto the Quad Cities. With a handsome detective as her temporary partner, they continue the search. Mallory puts her emotions, her morals, and her life on the line her quest to save an innocent. The serious nature of the subject matter is tempered by humorous scenes showing off Mallory's various talents and skills.
I started writing this character back in the middle 90s. I began my taekwondo training in 1991 and reached my Fifth Degree Black Belt in 2007. When I thought about writing this kind of novel, I considered resurrecting an old character I'd created long ago, Sam P. Petersen. However, because of the all the talented women I associated with in martial arts, I knew the character had to be female.
Mallory is quirky, dedicated, loyal, humorous, talented, tall, blonde, blue eyed, and has many of my own likes and dislikes.
Although I fictionalize locations, I use actual places in my story. I visit each location and by doing so, have been able to improve the chapters because I always discover a surprise or two when I'm out on the road.
