Book: Love Stinks (Marissa Scott mystery) by Jeffrey Markscategories: Book, Contemporary, Woman Sleuth, Cincinnati, Cozy, Traditional Mystery, Perfume, Mystery
Jeffrey Marksabout this book: The book is a prequel to my Malice Domestic grant winning title, The Scent of Murder. I had toyed with the idea of explaining the backstory in a number of different ways, but finally settled on writing another mystery to allow the reader to see what had happened in the past. So we learn how Gavin and Marissa met, how Marissa began working at Westgate Mall and we're introduced to the friends that are seen in The Scent of Murder.
I wrote the book quickly, in about 6 weeks, and I spent about 3 months editing. Since I live in Cincinnati, research for this book is rare, which is a nice change from my historical series.
The title was easy. I always try to use an olfactory word in each of the titles. So I used Scent in the first, Stinks in the second, and I think I'll be using Smell in the third book in the series. I'm currently thinking that the next title will be "Smell hath no fury..."
