Jim Cliffabout this book: The Shoulders of Giants is about a brand new private investigator, whose first case is finding a missing girl. When she turns up dead, things get a bit more complicated.
The title refers to a quote usually attributed to Sir Isaac Newton - 'If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants'. Isaac was being a bit modest about his brilliance, but the reference is just right for my protagonist, who bases his investigation style largely on the detectives he's read about in crime fiction and grew up watching on TV. It's also true of the villain in the book to some extent, although I won't give too much away about why.
I've tried really hard to get all the details right, from the forensics (I spoke to a few actual medical examiners to get some facts just right) to the details of the Chicago setting.
I hope that fans of crime fiction will enjoy reading The Shoulders of Giants as much as I enjoyed writing it.
