about this book: The Charmed Life is a book about a young private detective named Gene Harlow and his new best friend Pinkton (Pinky) Finkelstein in Marysville, California in the late 1940's. I used to live in Marysville in the late 1970's and 80's when it was far different than it had been in the 1940's. I heard many tales of the wild goings on back then when the same gambling, prostitution and other sinful delights that were available in Reno were available in Marysville, except they were illegal there. I have long had a historical bent and I did a lot of research that enabled me to learn that Marysville in that era was a very interesting place indeed. The book cover is an interesting story. I had wanted to use an actual photograph of downtown Marysville from the 1940's. However, the only photo I could find was too expensive so the lady that did my book cover used a stock photo from a small town and then darkened the photo to give the cover a 1940's film noir look. I tend to agree with reviewer KC Finn, from Readers favorite, who wrote that that this book is for fans of crime dramas, dialogue driven stories, and slow burning mysteries.
