Sigrid Vansandt about this book: This is the first book in a series were two American southern women become friends and find themselves caught up is solving mysteries. The catch is they're expats living in Yorkshire, England, and sometimes their adventures are a little bit like Lucy and Ethel's or Shirley and Laverne's. I wanted to put some history into this story and always found the lives of the Bronte sisters and the loss of Emily Bronte's last manuscript to be of particular interest. Poor Charlotte, Emily's sister, died so soon after her marriage and during her pregnancy that she may or may not have had the opportunity to manage Emily's last novel's publication. Some experts have said that Emily's last novel was destroyed deliberately by Charlotte or her husband, who greatly disapproved of Emily's writings. However, after reading how fond Charlotte was of her sister and protective of Emily's creativity, I don't feel somehow that Charlotte would have ever destroyed Emily's work. Somewhere out there someone may yet still find the last novel of Emily Bronte and many people over the last one hundred and fifty years have tried to follow the timeline and auction transactions in hopes of tracing its whereabouts. I just hope people get a kick out of reading a fun, sometimes comedic, story celebrating courageous women from not only our own time, but from another time in history when women were greatly constrained both socially and personally from often having recognition for their value, talents and achievements.
