Book: THE CASE OF THE PIG IN THE EVENING SUIT (Dumfries Detective Book 1) by RR Gallcategories: Book, Private Detective, Scottish, British, Trilogy, Quirky, Amusing, Murder Mystery
RR Gallabout this book: The Case of the Pig in the Evening Suit is the first book in a thrilling trilogy of interconnected murder/mystery stories, and is set firmly in the Scottish town of Dumfries, where I live.
The idea was to write something with humour and tension in equal measures.
Unlike the vast majority of literary detectives, (who tend to be good at their jobs despite chaotic private lives), Jin Johnstone is content with his lot yet not so good at his work. He is a novice. Nevertheless, it is possible to see him grow as the trilogy progresses: both as a person and as a detective.
Featuring a lot of local landmarks, and with dialogue holding smatterings of Scots words, the aim was to give the stories a sense of place.
As Jin drinks in my local pub, collecting the background for this story was easy. However, I chose not to be complacent about it, spending many hours there - all in the name of research, of course.
