Book: Politics by Other Means by Trevor Marsh
|4 stars, 1 review on Amazon|
Trevor Marshabout this book: This novel follows two main characters as they struggle to save humanity from a grave alien menace in the distant future of the year 2361. Sam, a member of the United Earth Federation diplomatic corps, and Michelle, a UEF destroyer captain, discover an impending threat to humanity but fail to convince others of the danger. It will be up to them, through the use of diplomacy, covert operations, and armed conflict, to save the Earth.
This book is inspired by a genre of computer games called 4X strategy games. These games, often sent in a science fiction setting, usually feature the player controlling humanity's expansion into the galaxy. The four X's stand for eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate. Classic games of the genre include Masters of Orion, Distant Worlds, Sword of the Stars, Galactic Civilizations, and Stardrive. I've often told myself internal stories while playing these games, inserting characters and adding lore as I go. One day, I decided to start writing down those stories and now here I am.
