Kimberley Angleseyabout this book: Mer Si Raen Ambush is the first in a trilogy of books I am writing on mermaids. My fiction story is about what happens when the US Navy learns that mermaids are real and then captures one. I began the book 15 years ago and then, when it was nearly done, 9/11 happened. That event complicated the premise of my book, and so I put the manuscript aside until two years ago when I decided enough time had passed. I rewrote the novel from beginning to end. It has been available on Amazon.com as a Kindle Book since April 2012. Readers include fans of urban fantasy, action adventure and of course, mermaids.
Through my mermaids, I hope to give a voice to all the creatures that inhabit the oceans. Our oceans are in dire circumstances, their health is failing. If they die, we all die with them. I have done tremendous amounts of research on the health of the world's oceans.
In May 2012, Animal Planet ran a documentary titled "Mermaids: The Body Found", claiming that mermaids are in, in fact, real. A compelling case was made for the existence of these mythological creatures. Many elements of my novel were coincidentally incorporated in that documentary. I don't know what to think about that.
The title of my book, Mer Si Raen Ambush, came from the military ambush of the mermaid, Onara. The sequel will be titled Mer, Song of the Si Raen. The third in the trilogy is tentatively titled, Mer, Reign of the Sanguine Queen.
I hope to inspire my readers to take an active role in protecting the world's oceans through conservation, clean up and pressure on governments to end over fishing and whaling—and more.
