Linda Naomi Katzabout this book: The book, Peter and Lisa, is a mental illness children's story about two adults who suffer from depression and mania where family and friends are both affected by it as they try to cope with the illness and the aspects of their recovery through treatment and necessary support by their loved ones. I co-authored it with my husband, Charles Katz. Charles and I were inspired to write this book for children ages 5-11 so they can have a level of understanding of what mental illness is and that people can get better from it and live healthy, happy lives. Children love stories and mental illness is a subject that should be addressed to them in their own language. I think the most difficult thing Charles and I had in writing this book was to find words that children could understand and fit those words into the story. As a result, I hope all of you will take a look at this book and notice the humor that we incorporated into Peter and Lisa and how we made it less fearful for children. I urge parents to read this book with their children because it is just educational for them as it is to the children.
