Kenneth Weeneabout this book: Ever thought you were going mad? Most of us have. Some even end up in an asylum. Often the craziest are the ones who are given the key. Sometimes the sanest are locked in their own magical worlds.
As a psychologist, I was always fascinated by the world of the psychiatric hospital. In writing Memoirs From the Asylum I wanted to give the reader an honest feeling for the place, for the experience of being either patient or staff member.
Of course, there had to be plot--not just description. As I allowed this whirling world of madness to evolve, I realized something. Psychiatric hospitalization is about freedom and existential choice. Those characters, patient and staff alike, had made choices and they were now given the opportunity to make new ones.
The outcomes may startle you. The realism of the situation will surely make you think. In the end, you will have your own unique experience, which I hope will be your Memoir From the Asylum.
