Boyd Keisel

Author Boyd Keiselabout this book: I am a first time author starting this adventure in the prime of my life at eighty-two years young. The reason I'm letting my age out of my bag of secrets is that Gifting and the Stick is a collection of short stories mostly about my growing up years during the 40's and 50's. I wrote these stories and others I haven't published, yet, over a period of about ten years. I never intended to publish these stories, but wrote them for my family. As my family shared my stories with friends and neighbors, the feedback I experienced encouraged me to get my stories published.

I've been told that a lot of my stories are hilarious, and some of them are. Others may bring a tear to your eye, and a few will get you thinking about life. One reader put it this way, "I was laughing my butt off in one story, and in the next story I was remembering times with dad and missing him." People tell me they relate to my stories, and the stories take them back to their childhood. Well then, it sounds like my Gifting and the Stick stories could be good medicine for the soul. Maybe, my stories could be like a breath of fresh air in these troubled times.

People often ask how I came to name my book Gifting and the Stick. Well, two sets of experiences inspired the title of this collection of stories. It's explained in the Introduction of my book. I will tell you this much. One part of the title came from an aging trapper who was a Lakota Sioux and a friend of mine. Another part of the title came from a traditional Navajo grandmother as she admonished her wayward granddaughter. I had the great privilege of knowing both of these wise and caring people. So, I will end with this thought: Read my book and you will find out more about them and others who influenced me throughout my life.
