Book: Our Lives in the Light - A Book of Life by Amy Kingdom

Amy Kingdomabout this book: This book is about my life growing up in Zambia. It is a book that portrays life through the eyes of both a child, as well as, in places, through the eyes of an adult, who lives on the creative edge. The memoir portion of my book began about eight years ago, and the inspiration for weaving my memoir together, using philosophy, science and religion came about after a 3-day episode of drug-induced psychosis which occurred as a result of cancer treatment.
I was inspired to write this thought-provoking book, both to stimulate dialogue amongst the different religions of the world, but also to give an insight to our medical fraternity as to the workings of the post-psychotic mind, and how it processes the world that it sees.
The main readers of this book are likely to be people of faith, as well as medics, who are interested in the nature of psychosis.
I chose the cover as it is a photo that a friend of mine took of the sportsfield at my high school - the light shining in the darkness seemed to fit well with my theme of bringing God's light into a darkened world.
Writing this book taught me a huge amount about the person that I am - it also revealed to me how much of our true selves we hide from one another (usually because we are afraid of being judged).
My ability to write this book is based solely on my unwavering belief in a Christ who loves me unconditionally. To my readers, I would say "I hope you enjoy this book, and that you will, one day, experience the catharsis of writing your own "Book of Life"".
