The author continues his unique approach developed for the memoir series. He focuses on events in which guns and weapons played a major role. It is a story of a teenager living in several boarding schools away from his family.
As a result of unusual post-war refugee conditions, the author had extensive contact with soldiers and displaced persons who had served and fought in allied forces on various fronts in Africa, Europe, and the Soviet Union. Those conditions were conducive to possession, use, and trade of guns and weapons smuggled into the UK after the war. Such an unusual environment was making an impression on the author who became a German Mauser gun owner when he was only 12 years old.
The author is neither a gun collector nor enthusiast, and was too young during the war to serve in any military forces. The events described during his teenage years were mostly unexpected and unplanned by him. His life was still controlled by parents, teachers, priests, and directors of boarding schools.
The objective of this and other volumes of this memoir is to underscore that no matter what regulation and legislation is in place limiting, or even excluding guns from specific social groups and events, it is sheer folly to expects that weapons of one kind or another will not be available to those who decide to use them.
This is particularly true if nuclear terror becomes a blackmail method of choice practiced by terrorists, insurgents and oppressed minorities seeking, justice, freedom, and independence. In the face of massive destruction of government security and communications systems, personal weapons may be the only means to assure survival.
The author is also considering plans for a sixth volume of his memoirs to cover near death experiences. It is a tentative project in case the author undergoes such conditions and is later revived. If such an event takes place the author hopes to contact several friends and acquaintances who committed suicide or were killed. The idea is to obtain detailed accounts of their experiences with guns in such circumstances.
