Book: Dreams and Realities - A Memoir of Love, Loss and Resilience by Mildred Santiago-Vélez

Mildred Santiago-Vélezabout this book: This is a story about how life can be so surprising and how I dealt with those surprises. As a young girl I dreamt about my future life that included marriage, children, and a career, not different from what many girls wanted for themselves during the late 50's and 60's. What I did not think about was how some dreams sometimes do not become realities because life takes turns down paths we never imagined. What do we do when faced with harsh realities? Do we run away and hide? That was not an option for me.
I was able to survive my unthinkable losses and rise from the ashes, like the phoenix, to a new life, a different path. Throughout my story I give tribute to my family, husband, and friends for their unconditional support, but most of all, to the love that was within me and around me at all times. Without love we are nothing.
