John R. McClarrenabout this book: This memoir is the story of a person who the actor, Steve Martin, might describe as, "a wild and crazy guy", and, who, as many of my readers have, has taken some very significant risks throughout life, and nearly all of them have been for the improvement of life in general. I have probably taken many more risks than most would attempt, but they have for the most part been calculated risks. Some, I am quite sure, have worked out only by the grace of God. In any case, those risks are very much a part of what has defined my life from the very beginning. Although many of those actions have been rather extraordinary, and what many might think extreme, they have been examples of who I am. It is not anything that I will ever "grow out of." On the contrary, it is a characteristic I will undoubtedly take to the grave. I am not through taking risks. I am seventy-one years old, and I am still determined to take flying lessons and become a pilot. I suppose I could crash and die in the process, but that is definitely who I am. I am determined and will do whatever it takes to find fulfillment in life and do whatever I can to help others to do the same. What I have written in this book varies from the extremely funny to exciting, adventurous, traumatic and just plain enjoyable. It's a story of life.
