Bob Fussabout this book: I have written a memoir of my 40 years as a radio correspondent covering stories ranging from the Academy Awards to traveling with Presidents and interspersed it with travelogues written over the years as I've traveled to all 50 states and more than 70 countries.
The book was written over a period of years as I jotted down stories on my I-Phone, usually sitting on a beach on vacation or on airplane flights as remembering one story I covered would trigger memories about others. After I retired as a CBS News Correspondent in 2014 I put the stories together in order and added sections I hadn't gotten around too, including about my 23 years covering Congress.
The travelogues were written contemporanously during various adventure trips sole for my relatives and close friends at the time. It is an unusual format to intersperse them into the narrative but it follows the track of the way I've lived my life, covering the news intensely and then breaking away to raft a wild river or wander around Australia.
After decades as a network correspondent unable (and properly so) to express any political opinions I do so in my book and share my views of the many politicians I have covered over the years and the disaster that Congress has become.
But I've also covered sports and medical breakthroughs, natural disasters and coups and fun feature stories along the way.
One unusual aspect of my story I think is that millions of radio listeners over the decades had no idea that I was disabled and walked on crutches and while that is not the focus of my book (or my life) it led to a number of interesting stories, including when former President Bill Clinton learned first-hand how difficult it is to get aboard Air Force One on crutches.
