Lawrence Gold, M.D.about this book: No Cure for Murder is part of the Brier Hospital Series. I'm a retired physician and long-distance sailor. My novels are based on my experience working in a community hospital and serving as the chief of medicine and family practice.
In this novel, I attempt to create for the reader the reality of hospital medical practice without the melodrama frequently associated with this genre.
No Cure for Murder is a mystery, but like all my novels, the book makes important observations.
The main characters, Jacob and Lola Weizman are in their eighties (imagine, octogenarian protagonists). They are holocaust survivors who take the fear out of aging. Although they do face the consequences of ageism in our culture, both are up to the challenge.
I hope to use these characters again as readers have found them charming and inspiring.
From review: Dr. Gold fills the pages of "No Cure for Murder" with insider information, exposing politics, public relations, and personal relationships, gently seasoning it with bits of his own philosophy. His Dr. Weizman has seen the worst (Auschwitz) and the best (his wife, Lola) of life, is somewhat cantankerous, and loved by his patients for his concern and help. So why does someone hate him?
"No Cure for Murder" is a very quick, enjoyable read; the reader has a variety of suspects from which to choose, and may find him- or herself vacillating between several. The identity of the serial killer is not a total surprise (there are many indications throughout the book), but--as murderers go--this is one is especially evil.
