Malcom Masseyabout this book: This novel is an action adventure about the Mayan 2012 Prophecy of the return of Kukulkan, the "feathered serpent" god who promised to return to the Maya at the end of the current age. I wrote it while living in the Yucatan area of Mexico, which is where all the action takes place.
Readers who enjoy historical action adventure novels will like the characters, pacing and plot of "The Lost Calendar of the Maya". My readers also like authors such as Chris Culver, Trevor Scott, Michael Wallace, and Roger Weston. Readers who have been to this area of Mexico will recognize many places that they have visited.
The title derives from the combination of the main Mayan Calendars for the Sun and the Moon cycles, along with the mysterious Mayan prophecy of the return of Kukulkan, who was regarded as a powerful god. Was there also a Mayan calendar that would predict the return of Kukulkan? The cover shows Chichenitza, where some of the most exciting action takes place.
The hardest part of writing this book was shaping the abundance of available material down to concise action sequences. My novels are character driven, and the storyline connections between the characters in "The Lost Calendar of the Maya" are more complex than in my previous novels. Doubt and conflict between characters rises to tension levels that intensify the action, leaving the outcome of impending events, and lives, in jeopardy.
From the background research for this book, I gained a tremendous respect for the Mayan culture and their place in history. I also learned a lot about astronomy, archaeology, and history that was entirely new information to me, information which I believe will provide a new perspective on events to most readers. Fascinating patterns emerged as I went further into the available resources. I also learned how much fun it can be to take current topics and bring your existing characters into exciting new territory.
As you consider this novel, ask yourself if what you know about the Maya people is true. Then ask yourself what you would do if you found out that today's news held clues to how our world will end. And then ask yourself if you can afford to miss one of the Best Books about the Mayan 2012 Prophecy.
