Anne Allenabout this book: My newly published book, Dangerous Waters, is set on the island of Guernsey, part of the British Channel Islands and near the coast of France. I lived there for nearly 14 years after falling in love with the island and its people. I started to write the book 6 years ago when I was, reluctantly, back in the UK. I felt Guernsey was a great place to write about because as well as being beautiful, it's had a fascinating history. I wanted to include an old house hiding secrets and a heroine with a tragic past and the ideas just started to flow! Some of the fictional story is based on events that occurred during the German Occupation of WWII, while the main focus is contemporary.
The book is aimed primarily at women of all ages, although I've known of men who have read and enjoyed it! The main theme is love and loss and the story follows the healing of the central character, Jeanne Le Page, who has suffered tragedy while very young. I had to undertake some research for the part of the story concerning the Occupation and was lucky enough to be able to talk to people who had lived through it.
• 'The plot of Dangerous Waters was incredibly in-depth. Readers will have no choice but to be impressed at the thorough research Allen has done to make this novel come to life.'
• 'I really enjoyed the gripping storyline so much that I couldn't put it down once I started it. Having visited Guernsey many years ago on holiday it bought back many happy memories.'
