Danny Wynnabout this book: Man from the Sky is about a 73-year-old man, Jaime, living on the mountainous western coast of Majorca, who feels that life had passed him by. One morning he is out walking, and a small plane appears over the mountaintops. A man parachutes from the plane, and the plane flies on to crash in the sea. The man from the sky presents Jaime with a chance to feel like he's living life to the full, and he takes it, despite the danger involved.
I've always liked stories where something suddenly happens in an ordinary life that makes the ordinary life much more interesting. I think a lot of people would like for that to happen to them. I was also drawn to the idea of a man feeling that he hadn't lived a very full life, and that drove him to do something that is dangerous and doesn't really make sense to do. So, I combined those two concepts, and the book grew from there.
In a sense, my research came from my visits to Majorca. I have been to the island about 25 times, which was key to my being able to write the book. The book very much reflects my experience of the island.
I see my primary readers as people who like intelligent stories about the human condition. People who like Graham Greene, Robert Stone, Jim Harrison and Paul Theroux. This the kind of book I would like to read, and if you have a taste for thinking man's adventure stories, as I do, you will enjoy this book.
