Barbara Winkesabout this book: Autumn Leaves is a love story between two women with a very different background. Rebecca, married and a mother of two girls, never imagined that she would fall for another woman one day. The realization turns her life upside down. What will happen to her family if she dares to follow her heart? How will her friends react?
Callie is a writer who came to the dreamy town of Autumn Leaves to finish her latest book. A relationship is the last thing she wants. Rebecca's curiosity is both irritating and tempting to her, affection turning into attraction. Not everyone in town welcomes the inevitable changes.
The inspiration came right out of the discussion about gay rights and marriage equality. Why is it even still a matter of discussion? What makes people hesitate to support equal rights, and what does it take for them to open their minds.
I intended to tell a love story in the first place, with a hopeful outcome. However, some aspects were sad and frustrating, because prejudice is not a matter of the past. I wrote most of the story in 2010, but its themes are still relevant.
While Autumn Leaves can be read as a standalone story, it is the first part of a series.
