Robert Cubitt

Author Robert Cubittabout this book: Over the years I have applied for many jobs. With some I was successful in my applications and with others I wasn't. However, when I wasn't successful I didn't just shrug my shoulders and move on to the next application, I learned from the experience and that, in turn, made my job hunting more successful.

Over the years I also interviewed and assessed hundreds (yes really) of other people for jobs and was amazed that so many people performed so badly at their assessment centre or job interview. That was if they were invited for interview in the first place. I have rejected so many CVs (resumes for my American readers) because they were so badly written that they didn't tell me anything about the candidate, or what they told me was not what I needed to read.

What was the matter with these people? Why had they not learned how to be a good job applicant? Of course the reason was quite simple. These most basic and essential of skills aren't really taught, so applicants send in poorly prepared CVs or appear before prospective employers not knowing what to expect and poorly prepared. Those that have prepared stand out from the crowd and get the job, even though the best candidate may have been rejected simply because they didn't know how to write a decent CV.

Knowing all that I decided that maybe I should share my accumulated knowledge and experience with candidates so that they can be the ones that get the good jobs, not the ones who just happen to be able to produce a good CV or who interview well. That is what "I Want That Job" sets out to do and I hope very much it is successful. It may be the best £2.56 that anyone ever spends.
