Heather Grayabout this book: Mail Order Man is a book close to my heart. Sure, it's my first novel. Everyone gets excited about their first book, right? It's also the book I wrote in the months following the loss of one of my children. The story has nothing to do with that loss, but it's the place to which I escaped when I needed somewhere to hide from the grief and the expectations of others. To have the book accepted for publication has brought me great joy in the midst of my sorrow.
I learned quite a bit during the writing and publication of this novel. For starters, I discovered that I can do it! I can write a novel from beginning to end. Much of the rest of what I learned is…well…kind of boring sounding. The point, though, is that the next book is better (and already under contract and in editing), and the one after that is going to be better, too. I look forward to many more years of writing with each completed work an improvement upon the one before it.
So now to tell you about what happens in Mail Order Man! Sarah is shy and introverted. Her friend, Minnie, is anything but. Minnie places an ad in a newspaper to find a mail order husband for Sarah. Men come flooding into the town of Larkspur where they live. Some of the men are good. Others…not so much. Sarah meets one man who turns her world upside down and makes her question everything she's ever believed about her own relationship with God. She discovers that life is full of color, laughter and wonder, and she embraces it. The unsavory men who have arrived in Larkspur, though, aren't going to go quietly. Trouble ensues, bullets fly, and people get hurt. Where will Sarah and the special man she met be when the dust settles?
