Book: On the Other Hand by June McCulloughcategories: Book, Fiction, Depression, Faith, Hope, Suicide, Widow, Inspirational Romance
June McCulloughabout this book: Even though my novel, On the Other Hand, is fiction, the main character, Nina Andrews, is a composite of several people who have been a part of my life.
In this story Nina and Mike are empty-nesters who are still very much in love and looking forward to retirement. Suddenly everything changes when Mike has a stroke and dies leaving Nina alone. Her overwhelming grief soon turns to anger and then depression. No matter how hard she tries, it seems impossible to take the next step. That is when she comes to the conclusion that she can't, and won't, go on without the love of her life.
Nina carefully plans her suicide, but just as she is about to carry out her plan, there is a knock at her door and the story takes a surprising twist. That is the night that she learns what would have happened had Mike not died that day and how many lives would have been affected (On the Other Hand).
Their financial planner, Pat McDermott, is successful professionally, but her personal life has been a disappointment. She has always admired the relationship that Mike and Nina have and envies them. As Nina struggles with her loss, Pat battles her own demons.
This novel has been receiving excellent reviews from my readers of all ages. With stroke being the third leading cause of death in the United States, many people today are experiencing what Nina experienced in On the Other Hand. As they attempt to adapt to their new life, it can be difficult for them to believe that anyone understands what they are going through. If this is what you are going through now, or if you are watching someone you love go through this, I hope that through this book you will know that you are not alone.
