J.R. Broadwater about this book: I've been a big guy all my life because my body doesn't produce testosterone like it should, among other things. Basically I rolled snakes eyes in the genetic craps game. Unfortunately Doctor's didn't pick up on this until I was 30. Had they discovered it before puberty my life would have turned out much differently. This oversight is due in large part to many medical professionals making assumptions about me because of my weight rather than looking for other potential causes. My condition was discovered through a simple blood test and it was the first thing my new internist recommended when he met me. He was the first doctor in over 30 years to even think to do it, and he came to this conclusion five minutes after meeting me.
For the past fifteen years I've been a minister and I've worked mostly with youth. Working in the ministry you see and experience quite a bit. This book talks about many of those experiences, often with humor. It discusses what it's like to be morbidly obese. It talks about the issues that overweight people have to deal with every day like dieting, breaking furniture, and being embarrassed with how you look. It talks about assumptions that people make, and how those assumptions can affect others. It also examines my philosophy on relationships, religion, and even depression and suicide. My hope was to write something that might inspire others and motivate them to improve their own lives be it through dieting, belief, or just a paradigm shift.
