Janet Kellyabout this book: Dear Beneficiary is a 'laugh out loud' story about Cynthia, a 60 year old widow who gets taken in by an email scam - thinking the message is from her former young Nigerian lover.
I was inspired to write about this after a number of my friends were convinced that fraudulent messages might be real. It is aimed at older women although it seems the market is wide. It took me around four years from writing the first chapter to getting published and the hardest part was editing - over and over again. First with an agent, then a friend who helped out, then another agent and then the publisher's editor.
I would love people to read this book and really enjoy the tale. It is a farce in many senses and a lot of the scenes are very visual - hence interest from film and TV producers in the possibility of me writing a script based on the story of Cynthia and the people she meets after deciding to travel to Nigeria to find her lost love.
The best selling author, Katie Fforde, has described the book as 'very entertaining' after having read just the first chapter and it has also been referred to as a 'modern day Shirley Valentine'.
