Pamela Foster about this book: I grew up on the coast of northern California in Eureka, but I spent summers with my grandparents in Peckwan, a tiny community in the heart of Bigfoot Country. By the time I was five, I knew that while stories of Bigfoot were an accepted part of life during summers in the mountains, once I returned home to my middle-class neighborhood, the same tales drew ridicule. When the idea for Bigfoot Blues began to germinate, of course I thought of my grandfather's encounter with the creatures on Blue Mountain Road. But I also thought of the disconnect between cultures, the way a child learns that reality shifts with the scenery. I wanted my main character, Samantha, to be raised in such a culture and while I could have created a life for Sam among well-meaning and deeply devote people of one religion or another, I choose to make her father a hunter of Bigfoot because I have an intimate knowledge that belief and because Bigfooters, as a rule, have a much better sense of humor than do religious fanatics of any persuasion.
