Lill Hawkinsabout this book: Funny You Should Ask is Book 1 in a 3 book series, Life Without a Field Guide. The books chronicle several years in the lives of the Hawkins family of Maine. Some of the subjects it covers are head banging as therapy, the fact that Mercury isn't retrograde but is on the floor next to my bed, and why you should be cautious around blind chickens.
Books in the series pose some questions. Does the marriage bed of Satan have a memory foam mattress? Is death by arachnophobia insecticide? What do unschoolers do on snow days and why did the turtle cross the road? What color is your beard? (Mine is green, by the way.)
One of the books explains why you should be wary of cassowaries, why you shouldn't blow your nose on Henry's wife and uses parallel logic and circular lines to theorize that knitting originated on an alien planet.
You don't have to be a homeschooler to enjoy Life Without a Field Guide. If you liked Erma Bombeck or laughed at Phyllis Diller's self-deprecating humor, give Life Without a Field Guide a go. It's the only way to find out why I hate/heart Maine.
