Book: How to Write a Mystery by Carlene Rae Datercategories: Book, Instructional, Helpful, Short, Uncomplicated, Complete, Easy to Understand, How to Write a Mystery
Carlene Rae Daterabout this book: I've been a mystery lover all my life and so far have published nine novels, all mysteries, humorous mysteries and romantic suspense. I've been asked many, many times how to write a mystery. I have read a lot of books on how to write a mystery and too many of them go off on tangents, get too detailed or, mainly promote the author's book or books.
I wanted to create a simple guide that anyone could use to start writing a mystery novel. So, I sat down and, over the course of a few weeks, hammered out the basics of writing a mystery. As a test, I gave a copy to each of the students I taught in my creative writing class at Southwestern Oregon Community College. Several of them not only started, mysteries but also finished them and...one went on to publish his book. This little book will get you started and keep you going until you finish that first mystery.
