Book: Lights! Camera! Gallop! The story of the horse in film by Lesley Lodgecategories: Book, Television, Roy Rogers, Trigger, Movies, War Horse, Horses in Film
Lesley Lodgeabout this book: Lights! Camera! Gallop! is all about horses in film and television.
When I say all, I mean from the silent movies to 2012 (and there'll be a revised version sometime – to cover film since then such as the Lone Ranger and his horse Silver).
It took me five years to research, watching hundreds of films and a lot of freeze-frame. Also I interviewed people in the film-making world.
I chose the title Lights! Camera! Gallop! because for me it encapsulates the excitement of much of the horse action in films (I didn't realise then quite how many other books on all sorts of subjects have a title beginning "Lights! Camera!"…..).
The most difficult – and most expensive – part was tracking down the copyrights on the pictures I've included in the book and paying for the user licences.
Anyhow, whether you admire horses, love films or both, check out the flowing manes, spectacular stunts and sheer wonder of horses in film.
